The actor threw shade on celebs who snubbed the award ceremony.
This year HUM Awards have come under fire for happening at a very wrong time. People are grappling with devastating floods, monsoon rains, and losing lives n livelihoods while celebrities are headed to Canada to attend HUM awards. While our stars celebrated the awards night with much pomp and fairness, Hollywood celebrity Angelina Jolie came to Pakistan to visit flood-affected regions. This is precisely why netizens became more irked although HUM network arranged a special fund-raising ceremony pre-award ceremony it still didn’t do much-needed damage control.
Celebrities from Ushna Shah to Mahira Khan and others have been posting about how the revenue coming from the tickets will go straight go or flood relief activities besides the fund-raising ceremony itself. But it still seems like the fuss around the award ceremony is not dying anytime soon. Recently Yasir Hussain posted on his social media handle and took a dig at actors who supposedly skipped the award ceremony “in solidarity” with the flood victims.
“If our politicians can sit in New York and sip on coffee without any purpose whatsoever, why can’t I, a citizen, be in Canada for my work to earn money through which I can pay my electricity bills?” Hussain went on to allege that celebrities who are blabbering about not attending the award ceremony didn’t go because they were refused business class tickets for the travel. I’ve read the chat, son.”
In another post, he gave a befitting reply and shut down a troll who accused him of being a hypocrite who left for Canada amidst all the crises. To which the actor responded, “ I went for my work like you would for yours. Like the cricketers who go abroad to play cricket matches. Same like people, who sell tickets for cinemas and others who mind their own business and so should you.” To which actor Sajal Aly also applauded and agreed with his response and appreciated him.
A few days back, Actor Azfar Rehman wrote an Instagram post on how he has decided to skip the HUM award ceremony due to floods and how our country is drowning in floods. He requested the managing authorities at the award ceremony to donate his stay and ticket money for the flood affected.” His decision to stay away from the ceremony was appreciated by many actors including Ayesha Omer, Mehwish Hayat, Sadaf Kanwal, and Nadia Afghan.
