“Out with the old and in with the new” is the line of the moment with several long-running Pakistani dramas which have come to an end, such as “Ishq Murshid” and the nearly completed “Jaan E Jahan.” While post-Ramadan, we had several new shows starting, this week will see several star-studded, highly anticipated dramas premiering – which will leave fans weighing their options. Let’s discuss the shows premiering this week!
First is “Gentleman” on Green Entertainment. Starring Humayun Saeed, Adnan Siddiqui, Yumna Zaidi, Zahid Ahmed and Sohai Ali Abro, the story has been written by Khalil Ur Rahman Qamar and directed by Haissam Hussain. The love story between a street thug and a journalist, “Gentleman” asks an important question – who are the real criminals? Are the street thugs the criminals or the rich who use these thugs for personal gain? An excellent cat, a great writing, a brilliant director, and a magical OST make this a must-watch. The first episode aired on May 12, 2024.
Next is “Zard Patton Ka Bunn” on Hum TV. Bringing back the stellar Mustafa Afridi and Saife Hassan duo, “Zard Patton Ka Bunn” follows a young woman from a conservative community with limited opportunities on a quest towards self-discovery. Starring Sajal Aly and Hamza Sohail in lead roles, this drama is In association with the Kashf foundation, which promises a meaningful story. The first episode also aired on May 12 with both “Zard Patton Ka Bunn” and “Gentleman” airing on Sundays, giving each other stiff competition.
Third is “Jafaa,” which will be airing on Mondays on Hum TV starting May 13, 2024. This is a story about two imperfect couples coming together in marriage, their bonds turning into one of strength and support. Written by Samira Fazal and directed by Danish Nawaz, “Jafaa” stars Mawra Hocane, Mohib Mirza, Sehar Khan and Usman Mukhtar. This story highlights mental health issues, but also promises to be an uplifting tale.
Fourth, “Jaan Nisar” began airing on May 11 on Geo and will air on Fridays through Sundays. This show cashes in on the success of “Deewangee” with the same hit pair of Danish Taimoor and Hiba Bukhari. Written by Rehana Aftab and directed by Mohsin Mirza, “Jaan Nisar” follows Nosherwan Ghaznavi (Danish Taimoor) and his wife, Dua (Hiba Bukhari) and their turbulent marriage. Outwardly, this show doesn’t appear to offer anything too exciting, but has already amassed millions of views with its first three episodes.
“Noor Jahan,” starring Kubra Khan, Ali Rehman Khan, Saba Hameed, Noor Hassan, Hajra Yamin and Zoya Nasir is also in the lineup, most likely set to replace “Jaan E Jahan” after it airs its final episodes next week.
While we will dearly miss shows like “Ishq Murshid” and “Jaan E Jahan,” the new lineup is a promising one!
