The holy month of Ramazan has already begun and Muslims around the world have begun fasting with full zeal. While we all are super excited to fast because it gives us time to self-reflect and builds a strong relationship with the Almighty, it also is not an easy task to fast during the summer season. Fasting during the extreme heat of summers tends to take a toll on the body if it’s not hydrated for a longer period of time. So, to keep yourself cool and hydrated we have curated a list that should be added to your daily routine to make your Roza easy breezy.
1. Keep Your Caffeine Intake To A Minimal
If you are a coffee or a chai person, then we definitely know the horror it feels to cut down on your caffeine intake. but since we are already dehydrated, drinking caffeinated drinks like chai, colas and coffee can make you urinate more which will further lead to dehydration.
2. Hydrate Yourself With Water Foods
Do you know our body is made of 60% water? This is why we need foods that keep us hydrated at all times and during the month of Ramazan, it becomes even more important. Other than drinking plenty of water, include tukh malanga, chia seeds water, cucumbers, watermelons, yogurt, oranges, milk, and even blackberries. Other than these water foods, green tea has been proven to not just be hydrated, but also help in freeing the body from free radicals.
3. Wear Light Clothes
As much as possible, wear light clothes that allow your sweat to evaporate. Choose to wear loose-fitting clothes made of preferably cotton or any other breathable material to help your body stay cool for longer so you don’t get dehydrated. Not just the material, summer colors should be worn to keep the sun’s rays at bay. If you’re at home or in an office, close the blinds to not let the hot sun rays in, so you can keep your surroundings cool.
4. Say No To Processed Or Excessively Salty Food
While we are keen to dump our bodies with oil-rich pakoras, samosa, and fried dumplings, salty foods can cause dehydration, excessive bloating, and make you uncomfortable. During Ramazan, it is better to avoid deep frying and rather bake the iftar menu like samosas rolls and pakoras. Less oily food and salt mean less dehydration. Also, eat in controlled quantities as suggested by the expert. Overeating is a strict no-no as it can lead to acidity, indigestion, sluggishness, and fatigue.
5. Take a Shower For About 5 Minutes
An everyday shower for a good 5 minutes will make your body cool off. While taking warm showers is actually quite cooling for the body, sometimes your body needs to be tricked into thinking it’s cool (especially if it’s 40 degrees outside). You can do that by taking a cold shower, it really helps your body recover from a long exhausting day. If you don’t have time for a shower you can just wet a face towel with cold water and pat your face with it, this works wonders in refreshing your body.
