Summer is in full swing and more than anything all we want is to head out and soak up the summer sun, meet our friends and wear the outfits we were eager to wear all winter long. Owing to the chain of events that 2020 presented to us however, things took a turn for the worst. We were forced into our homes, made to avoid the outside world and not see our loved ones; but of course it was for the greater good. Now, the world is slowly starting to open up and doors to many businesses are starting to open.
It appears that we can start to head outdoors, meet people while taking precautions and try and get our lives back on track. However, after months of staying indoors, it can be a daunting task to head out into the scary world. If like us, you’re a little unsure, then we’ve compiled four different ways you can head outside but still stay safe this summer.
Continue to social distance
It may be tempting to go back to our normal routines of meeting our friends, heading to your favourite brunch spot, heading to the salon for that much needed manicure or even spending date night at your favourite dinner spot. If you have the luxury of being in a city that has reopened, don’t put your health at risk and still take caution. Continue to avoid large crowds, wear a mask and keep your distance if you are meeting family and friends and most importantly, don’t forget to wash your hands. Limit your exposure to a large number of people and really think about whether it is necessary to attend that barbeque where a large number of people will be in attendance.
Take caution if you’re planning to travel
One of the worst-hit industries during the pandemic was travel. We had summer plans and in our heads we were going to spend the summer of 2020 on a beautiful beach, walking along sandy shores and just soaking up the summer sun. Many getaways and road trips were cancelled, but now as the world begins to recover, people have been making alternative travel plans. If you plan to travel, there are a number of things you can consider before making any bookings. Can you drive to your destination? Are you travelling with someone who has a weak immune system? Will your work allow you to quarantine for 14 days after your trip? These are just some of the questions you should be taking into consideration if you are planning to travel. Perhaps pick a destination which will not be swarming with tourists or perhaps choose to travel when it is not the peak of summer. Also whenever you book, check the rules and regulations for that country as each country has its own rules for travelling and tourism during and post the pandemic.

Opt for more indoor activities
During this period, we’ve all been pretty creative while being confined to our homes. From finally trying your mother’s lasagna recipe, to working out indoors, to painting your room or plant pots, to upcycling your clothes and so on, we’ve been there done that. And while we may be longing to be outdoors, why not bring the outdoors home to you! Why not consider turning your backyard into a camping spot for you and the girls, or turn your dining area into a fancy restaurant for bae, or even opt for checking out outdoor events that are streaming online and bring them to your very own lounge? This way, you can enjoy the perks and events of being outdoors by staying indoors, while ensuring everyone’s safety?
Trying to stay as safe as possible doesn’t necessarily have to take the fun out of summer but at least you know it will definitely be a summer to remember.
