Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri Episode 16: Saim and Zobia’s Marriage Cracks Before It Even Begins

Young love is a subject we often see on our screens in South Asia, whether it be in Pakistani dramas or Bollywood films.  However, the wedding tends to be the “happily ever after” moment, all problems and complaints falling into place once the young couple is married.  However, this is where “Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri” has been taking a different path, showing not only the opposition towards young love, but also the naivety and innocence where our lead couple is not emotionally equipped to handle these life-changing decisions.  Starring Khushhal Khan and Dananeer Mobeen in lead roles, “Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri” also stars Omair Rana, Ayesha Toor, Farah Sadia, Ali Tahir, Laila Zuberi, Naureen Gulwani, Ali Raza and others in prominent roles.  The story has been written by Rahat Jabeen and directed by Shahid Shafaat.

In episode 16, the pressure and stress of what they’ve done starts to take hold of Zobia (Dananeer Mobeen), realizing her father is in the hospital due to her actions.  Zobia is still a young girl, a girl who has always been protected and sheltered from the world, and the past 48 hours have been a nightmare for her.  She’s realizing that love does not shield one from the world and now, removed from the comforts of her home and wandering without a destination, she is panicked.  Meanwhile, Saim (Khushhal Khan) has been trying to hold it together, his love for Zobia stronger than any of the struggles they’ve been facing.  Finally, with the help of their temporary landlord, Nazar (played by Saqib Sumeer), Saim and Zobia have their nikkah and are husband and wife.  Unfortunately, this marriage gets off to a rocky start when the police arrive and, in fear, Nazar asks them to leave the premises immediately, throwing Saim and Zobia out into a dark, rainy night.  Love does not protect one from the dangers of the world and, sadly, neither does marriage.  Out the dark, the two are already tense, yet Saim continues to protect and show affection for his young bride – but when he sets out to find some food, Zobia is attacked by three wayward men.  Though Saim arrives in the nick of time, this is the final nail in the coffin for Zobia.  She has been rattled for the majority of the day, feeling as though all the troubles they’ve faced is punishment for their decision to get married against their parents wishes – and this cements it.

Khushhal Khan and Dananeer Mobeen prove that they are upcoming stars in this scene, showing off their acting talent and how!  While Saim has constantly been proving his love for Zobia, he’s tired of being her punching bag and easing her complaints, wanting some reassurance himself.  Zobia, on her part, is afraid of the lack of security, her family’s anger and her father’s condition and this spills out as mistrust towards Saim.  This is an intense scene, one which ends with Zobia accusing Saim of trying to take advantage of her, tearing the Nikkah papers – which will come back to haunt her later, that’s for sure – and Saim telling her to get out of his life.  The friction and tension between these two characters is palpable and honestly, these actors deserve a round of applause.  Khushhal Khan has been proving himself more and more with each character he portrays on screen, proving that he’s one of Pakistan’s most talented new faces.  Dananeer Mobeen entered the industry with a viral video and many naysayers felt she was just riding the wave of popularity – but between “Sinf E Ahaan” and now “Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri,” this young lady is an actress worth watching!

This episode is Saim and Zobia centric with little room to praise anyone else.  However with Daniyal (Ali Raza) on their tail, what will happen next week when Daniyal and Saim come face to face?  There appears to be lots of action in the upcoming episode with little relief for the young couple.  Will Saim and Zobia ever see a happy ending or is this a breaking point?
