Duke of Sussex Prince Harry’s wife Meghan Markle recently accused the British Royal family of racism, deceitfulness and bringing her to the verge of suicide, in a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey. She added that her now one-year-old son Archie, had been denied the title of prince because there were concerns within the Royal family about how dark his skin might be. “They didn’t want him to be a prince,” she said, “adding there had been conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.”
Meghan mentioned that the tense and hostile atmosphere in the family, while she was pregnant with her first child, led to her having suicidal thoughts and considering self-harm after pleading for help but getting none. “I just didn’t want to be alive anymore. And that was a very clear and real and frightening constant thought. And I remember how he (Harry) just cradled me,” she said, while wiping her tears.
When several tabloid newspapers got after Meghan’s life, humiliating her on multiple occasions, nobody from the Royal household came to her defence. “It was all happening just because I was breathing,” she continued. “I just didn’t want to be alive any more. That was a clear, real, frightening and constant thought.” Meghan said her biggest regret was believing the royal household when they said they would protect her. When she went to the personnel department at the peak of her depression, she was told, “My heart is going out to you, but there’s nothing we can do because you’re not a paid member of the institution.”

She said other members of the Royal household had told her straight up that she couldn’t seek psychiatric help because it wouldn’t be good for the institution. Prince Harry said the attitude of his relatives had been that they had all been through something similar and the only thing to do was to tough it out. Harry, however, begged to differ. “What was different for me was the race element,” he said. “I said, guys, this is not going to end well.” The couple said their relations with several members of the royal family were strained. Harry defined his relationship with his older brother, William, with the single word “space”. He said his father had stopped taking his calls for a while and that there was “a lot to work through there”. “I feel really let down,” he said of Prince Charles. “There’s a lot of hurt that has happened. My family really cut me off financially,” Harry concluded.
