Pakistani politicians and their antics often make their way on social media and the things they say and do are often heavily criticised. Social media has no chill and if you’re a politician or a celebrity, then your every move from what you say, to the things you do and the clothes you wear will be in the spotlight; with netizens keeping a close eye on your every move. From Shireen Mazari’s oft-changing hair colour, to Prime Minister Imran Khan’s marriages to Nawaz Sharif’s London escapades, social media has captured it all.
And now, daughter of Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz has been in the social media spotlight for two appearances this week, one at KFC and another at the All Parties Conference (APC) in Islamabad. Maryam Nawaz was spotted at a branch of KFC where she was seen placing an order. Of course someone snapped a picture which has been making rounds across social media and Twitter had a field day with the memes that have been circulating following her visit to the fast food chain.
Many of the memes made note of the fact that she was standing in line and waited for her turn. “Maryam Nawaz ordering KFC for her staff at Bhera motorway. People were surprised to see her standing on the queue and waiting for her turn,” wrote one user, while another joked, “Ignore negativity like this kid ignores Maryam Nawaz,” referring to the child on her right who appears to be engrossed in placing his order.

Now, just when we thought Twitter had calmed down and moved on from her visit to KFC, Maryam Nawaz attended the APC in Islamabad and boy did Twitter have a lot to say about it. Not for her attendance, but for her footwear! Maryam Nawaz looked rather chic in a stunning emerald green ensemble which featured a long kameez which was teamed with a pair of straight pants. Maryam Nawaz coupled the outfit with a matching chiffon dupatta and looked rather chic in her look of the day.
While many praised her look and acknowledged how graceful she looked, there are some who caught sight of her matching footwear and this isn’t the first time she’s come under fire for her expensive taste in shoes. To complete her look, Maryam Nawaz opted for a pair of matching mule heels, but they weren’t just any pair of mules. They were satin pumps by Manolo Blahnik, and any shoe lover will know Manolo’s are royalty in the shoe world.
Netizens were quick to react and point out that Maryam Nawaz was clad in a pair of Manolo’s with many stating the cost of the shoes. The emerald green satin heels, which are known as the Hangisi mules come in at a cost of $1365 which is approximately Rs227,230, which is way more than what an average household earns in Pakistan. On taking note of her look, one Twitter user wrote, “Maryam Nawaz doesn’t fascinate me one bit; no matter what she wears or with how much poise. All I see when I look at her is that she is shallow, fake, vile and dumb! Unlike many here, her looks don’t hide her true self for me at least.”

Another user was angered by how expensive her shoes are and that people’s tax money was used to pay for them. “The chappal Maryam Nawaz gifted herself on my behalf, from my tax money, without my permission,” the tweet read.

A number of Twitter users were also all praise for her look. “Maryam Nawaz looks beautiful but remember that the things she’s wearing are all bought from YOUR money.

There are some however, who took a more neutral stance and asserted that people should not be taking note of what shoes she is wearing. “The police she called for help raped her.
