If you’ve been keeping tabs on one of our favourite models, Bella Hadid, you’d know that earlier this week she schooled Instagram for removing her Instagram stories in which she had posted pictures of her father’s passport showing his place of birth as Palestine. Proud of her Palestinian roots, the model posted a series of pictures which showed her father’s passport; which were then removed by the social media platform on ground of ‘harrasment and bullying’.
This didn’t sit well with the brunette beauty and she took to her social media and posted about the incident on her story which left her fans in shock. Social media was abuzz with the news and now, Instagram has apologised for its actions. A spokesperson for Facebook, which is the parent company of Instagram, responded to her disappointment in a statement given to a magazine.
“To protect the privacy of our community, we don’t allow people to post personal information, such as passport numbers, on Instagram. In this case the passport number was blurred out, so this content shouldn’t have been removed. We’ve restored the content and apologized to Bella for the mistake,” the statement said.
Prior to this, Bella Hadid had shared the notification she had received from Instagram and said, “@Instagram exactly what part of me being proud of my father’s birthplace of Palestine is “bullying, harassment, graphic or sexual nudity?”

She further added, “You can’t erase history by silencing people. It doesn’t work like that,” before re-sharing the picture of Mohamed Hadid’s passport. “Do you want him to change his birth place for you?” she asked. In a further post she stated, “I am proud to be Palestinian,” and set the record straight while urging others to be proud of their roots and where their parents come from.
