Here is everything you need to know about the world’s first paperless government
Elated, overjoyed, and super proud!! A big, big announcement by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, was made on Saturday that Dubai has achieved yet another goal of being a paperless government, an initiative launched back in 2018. This means no employee or customer of the Dubai Government will need to print any paper documents or transactions, unless out of personal choice. Printing can be done at service or typing centers.
“Today marks the beginning of a new stage in Dubai’s journey to digitise life in all its aspects – a journey rooted in innovation, creativity, and a focus on the future,” said HH Sheikh Hamdan. “As we complete a full transition to a paperless government, we are proud to see the ambitious vision of our leadership being fulfilled by the people of our country who have worked hard to enhance Dubai’s competitiveness as a world-leading digital capital and reinforce its profile as a role model in designing government operations and services that enhance customer happiness.”
The Paperless Strategy Has Been Fully Implemented In 45 Government Entities:
The Dubai Paperless Strategy was implemented in five consecutive phases, each of which enlisted a different group of Dubai government entities. By the end of the fifth phase, the strategy was fully implemented across all 45 government entities in the Emirate. Not just that, the strategy provides more than 1,800 digital services covering 10,500 key processes. By end of the fifth and final stage, the ruler of Dubai launched a 100% paperless stamp and warded to each entity that fully embraced the paperless strategy and offered digital and paperless services.
Annual Consumption Of 1 Billion Pieces Eliminated With Dubai’s Paperless Strategy:
Yup, that’s right! The paperless strategy that was initiated back in the year 2018, was aimed at reducing one billion pieces of paper used in government transactions by 2021. Canceling out the usage of paper for official works will save enough money to not only feed 4 million children, but it will also intercept the cutting down of almost 1300 trees. The productivity level of people will soar higher and save 40 hours of efficiency.
Dubai Introduces DubaiNow App For UAE-iites To Avail 130 Smart city Services:
The whole purpose of introducing a paperless strategy in government entities is to enrich residents’ and tourists’ experience of a smart city by manifolds. In an effort to make Dubai a digital city and smoothly take the customers through the digitization service, the Dubai government has introduced the DubaiNow app. This app allows access to more than 130 smart city services across 12 major categories.
Hamad Al Mansoori, the director-general of Digital Dubai,
“This achievement is all the more important since it coincides with the UAE’s 50th-anniversary celebrations when we are looking forward to another five decades of success,” Al Mansoori said. “This accomplishment will have a tremendous positive impact on government efficiency. It will enable the optimal use of resources and encourage the greater use of innovation and technology to design advanced solutions and digitisation of services and procedures.”
