With Eidul Fitr only two weeks away, many countries world over are considering enforcing strict Covid-19 regulations in order to curb the pandemic and contain it from spreading any further. These include restricting movement, closing indoor spaces and banning public gatherings, while allowing private events within a specified guest limit. In light of the same, authorities in Ras Al Khaimah have announced an extension of coronavirus precautionary rules that were first announced earlier this year. The rules include reduced capacity at public places and limits on social gatherings, reported Khaleej Times.
The emirate’s government media office noted the rules will be in place till June 8. They were first announced on February 10. The safety measures include public beaches and parks will be at a reduced capacity of 70%, shopping malls at 60%, public transportation at 50%, cinemas and entertainment events and venues at 50%, fitness centres and gyms at 50%, and pools and private beaches at hotels at 50% as well.

The number of people permitted to attend family and social gatherings including weddings, is limited to 10 people. Funerals can have a maximum of 20 attendees. All members of the public must maintain a physical distance of 2 metres in public at all times. Restaurants and cafés are required to maintain a 2-metre distance between tables, where more than four people are not allowed to sit together, unless they belong to the same family. On April 26, the Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority in Ras Al Khaimah shut down a coffee shop for breaching Covid-19 safety rules. The cafe failed to implement social distancing. Moreover, some members of the public at Al Qawasim Corniche and at Ras Al Khaimah beach were strictly instructed to comply with distancing rules and were informed that any violation of safety measures would result in penalty.
