And now, the veteran actor is all set to lend his easily recognisable voice to Amazon. This will make the Piku actor the first Indian celebrity voice on an Artificial Intelligence gadget.
Amazon recently announced that Amitabh Bachchan will be the new voice behind their assistive device, Alexa. Taking to its blog, Amazon announced the news and confirmed that the feature will be available in India and will offer a range of services including, jokes, weather updates, shayari, advice, motivational quotes, and more. Customers will be able to access Bachchan’s voice on Alexa starting next year once they purchase the Amitabh Bachchan voice experience.

“Technology has always given me an opportunity to adapt to new forms. Be it in movies, TV shows, podcasts, and now, I am excited to create this voice experience in partnership with Amazon and Alexa,” Amitabh Bachchan said. “With voice technology, we are building something to engage more effectively with my audience and well-wishers,” he went on to add. He took to Instagram and Twitter to announce the news.
The country leader for Alexa at Amazon, Puneesh Kumar said that Bachchan’s voice is “truly memorable for any Indian who has grown-up with Bollywood.” Not only for Indians, but his voice can be recognised by his fans the world over. “This combination delivers a perfect pitch to further delight and simplify the lives of our customers. We are excited to see how our customers will respond when they use Alexa and hear his voice,” Puneesh added.
Amitabh Bachchan has now joined the ranks of a number of celebrities who have been given the opportunity to voice other tech devices thanks to their iconic voices. These include Samuel L. Jackson who lent his voice to Amazon’s Alexa in 2019 and Waze users given the opportunity to get Morgan Freeman to guide them to their destination. Now while this may be great news for Amitabh Bachchan, Twitter decided to have a field day with the news. A number of memes and jokes started circulating on the micro blogging site with many referencing iconic dialogues from Amitabh Bachchan’s classic films.
“*Alexa gets Amitabh Bachchan’s voice* Me: Alexa, say those three magical words, Alexa :- Parampara. Pratishtha. Anushasan,” wrote one user, while another joked, “Amitabh bachchan will be Alexa’s first Indian celebrity voice so the next time you ask Alexa a difficult question it will reply “meri taraf mat dekhiye main apki koi sahayata nahi kar puanga’.”
