Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) — an important event in Dubai’s annual calendar — is returning to the emirate on Thursday, 9th July. The 23rd edition of DSS will run for seven weeks, until 29th August, and will feature deals and promotions at Dubai’s malls, restaurants and leisure destinations. Here’s a list of things you can enjoy during DSS this year:
12-Hour Sale
The mega event begins on 9th July with a 12-hour sale at Majid Al Futtaim (MAF) malls in Dubai, from 10 am to 10 pm. During this special sale, mall visitors will be able to benefit from discounts of 25 to 90 percent on a wide variety of brands. Customers who spend a minimum of AED 300 will also get a raffle entry, with a lucky draw prize of 1 million Share Points which can be used to make purchases across MAF malls.
DSS Daily Surprises
Shoppers will be able to get one-day-only-deals daily at prominent stores across the city, announced 24 hours in advance. An annual feature of DSS, this year the offers will be run at two different locations everyday to ensure the safety of shoppers.
Yalla DSS
This game, in its 2020 edition, will invite players to take up three challenges, either online or by visiting gaming venues at Mercato Mall, Nakheel Mall, City Centre Deira, Dubai Outlet Mall, Mall of the Emirates, City Centre Mirdif, Ibn Battuta Mall and Dubai Festival City. Between 16th July to 29th August, the players will get a chance to win fabulous shopping vouchers when they complete a level. This year, Modesh will be making a special appearance to help players as they try to win prizes.
Fireworks
The Pointe on Palm Jumeirah will host fireworks for three nights, from 16th to 18th July at 8:30 pm. Visitors will also be able to enjoy a specially curated menu at some popular restaurants at this destination, from 12th to 18th July, with discounts of 30-50 percent and Buy 1 Get 1 Free offers on selected items.
Live Performances
Every weekend, malls in Dubai — including Dubai Festival City, Dubai Outlet Mall, Nakheel Mall, City Centre Mirdif, City Centre Deira, Ibn Battuta Mall and Mall of the Emirates — will host a variety of live entertainment shows for kids.
Yoga at Burj Khalifa
Yogis will be able to take morning classes, starting at 7 am, on Burj Khalifa’s At The Top viewing deck, held three times a week during DSS.
Private Cinema
Movie buffs can book an entire movie theatre at VOX Cinemas in City Centre Deira, City Centre Mirdif and Mall of the Emirates, for an exclusive show for their friends and family. Each auditorium can accommodate a maximum of 10 guests, with Standard experience priced at AED 450 per person and Gold experience priced at AED 800 per person.
Hotel Offers
Several luxury as well as affordable hotels are giving discounts on room rates, food and beverages, spa, etc. Guests at the Address Downtown Hotel, Fairmont The Palm, Movenpick JBR and Amwaj Rotana JBR will receive a 50 percent discount on room rates, while those visiting Zabeel Saray Palm hotel will get a 40 percent discount. Sheraton Jumeirah Beach will give 100 percent room costs back in the form of F&B. Dusit Thani Dubai’s guests will get F&B vouchers worth AED 300 for an AED 450 room booking.
DSS Chef Masterclass Series – Home cooks will get a chance to learn new dishes from Dubai’s award-winning chefs during 10 classes hosted as part of this special series.
Baking Classes
Magnolia Bakery will be hosting bakery classes and will also allow its customers to recreate its cookies with a special DSS cookery box, giving them a chance to win prizes by posting photos on Magnolia’s social media pages.
Coffee Masterclass
Café Nero will be hosting four masterclass sessions on Instagram Live, to teach coffee lovers how to transform their homemade coffee into works of art. Participants, who share photos of their coffee, can win a free bag of the cafe’s signature coffee beans.
Indoor Ripe Market
Every weekend during DSS, a number of locally made products, such as jewellery, food, art, fashion, homeware, etc., will be available at the Ripe Retail Pop Up at Nakheel Mall between 10 am to 7 pm.
Ski Dubai Promotions – Three promotions are being run by Ski Dubai. One is a chance for skiers and snowboarders to attend a two-day training by expert instructors and get a hot chocolate treat at the end of the session. The destination is also offering four tickets for the price of three and an annual summer pass, which gives two hours on the slopes, unlimited access to the Snow Park, a one-hour Discovery Lesson or 40 minutes in the Penguin Encounter area.

Art Exhibition
Nakheel Mall, on Palm Jumeirah, will be displaying artworks by international artists, in collaboration with the Alserkal Cultural Foundation.
DSS shoppers will also be able to avail a range of other offers at specific malls across the emirate, such as Al Bustan Centre, Al Barsha Mall, Al Ghurair Centre, Arabian Centre, Bin Sougat Centre, BurJuman, City Centre Al Shindagha, etc. They will get a chance to win weekly cash prizes at selected locations. They can also support the UAE Homeland of Humanity campaign for COVID-19 by shopping at Mercato Mall, which will be donating AED 1 from every AED 100 spent, as part of its Shop and Save Lives promotion.
