UAE visa renewal policy: Here’s what residents and visit visa holders need to know, from documentation to deadlines

In latest news, UAE authorities have confirmed that visit visa holders whose duration of stay expired after March 1 must leave the country in one month’s time. It warned that those who fail to comply will face fines for overstay, starting July 12. This means that the one-month deadline ends on August 10. Many visit visa holders were unable to leave the UAE on time due to the novel coronavirus outbreak. On Friday, UAE authorities had announced the cancellation of extended visa validity on expired residency visas and entry permits. Brigadier Khamis Al Kaabi, the official spokesman for the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, confirmed the grace period rules on Saturday in an interview on Abu Dhabi TV.

This applies to holders of entry permits, which include visit visas and tourist visas, that expired after March 1. On the contrary, UAE authorities amended their decision to provide a visa amnesty until the end of the year for UAE residents. Now, residents with expired visas must apply to secure a new visa. A three-month grace period started from July 11, meaning they will not incur any fines until the end of that deadline. This means the last date falls on October 11, 2020.
