Pakistani Dramas: New Launches In August 2023

With the large influx of dramas from Green Entertainment in July, most Pakistani drama viewers have an overloaded viewing schedule.  This makes it a daunting task to add any more dramas our lists.  That being said, this month, Hum TV, ARY Digital and Har Pal Geo have their share of new launches.  Let’s discuss the more promising ones.

First is Jannat Se Aagay on Geo, which will have already aired its first four episodes at the time of this article. The show stars Kubra Khan, Ramsha Khan, Talha Chahour and Gohar Rasheed, has been written by Umera Ahmed and directed by Haseeb Hassan. “Jannat Se Aagay” tells engaging story of admiration and aspiration, following the life of. Tabassum, who is an ardent fan of morning show host Jannat. But what turn will this admiration take when Jannats image is shattered in Tabassum’s eyes?  The show is off to a great start and shows promise.

Next is the highly awaited Ishq Murshid on Hum TV, written by Abdul Khaliq Khan and directed by Farooq Rind. “Ishq Murshid” stars Bilal Abbas khan in two different avatars, Durr E Fishan Saleem and Omair Rana. The story is described as a love triangle with two men fighting to get one woman.  It’s not clear whether Bilal is playing a double role or whether it’s a rags to riches story. Regardless, the promos look excellent and anything directed by Farooq Rind is something to look out for.

Hadsa on Geo stars Hadiqa Kiani, who is selective about her projects. Written by Zanjabeel Asim and directed by Wajahat Rauf, the show also stars Alyy Khan, Khaqan Shahnawaz, Saleem Mairaj and Juggan Kazim in prominent roles.  The story is a thriller, along the lines of “Jurm,” which released on Geo earlier this year.  It appears to be inspired by the real life motorway incident.  The promos depict Hadiqa’s character going through trauma and how society and her loved ones treat her when she most needs support. Assuming this doesn’t stress misery for ratings, this could be great.

Jaisay Aapki Marzi on ARY isn’t anything out of the usual, but has an interesting cast.  Durr E Fishan Saleem, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Ali Safina, Daniyal Afzal Malik and Kiran Malik star in the show which has been written by Naila Zehra Jafri and has been directed by Saba Hameed. Following a newly married couple, the female lead is in for a rude shock when she discovers she has married into a family of abusive clinical narcissists? This could be good if it’s handled well.

Airing on Hum TV, Nijaat stars Junaid Khan, Hina Altaf and Hajra Yamin and has been directed by Amin Iqbal.  This is described as a story about the unbreakable bond with God and how, through a journey of hope and faith, individuals find each other. The promos don’t look too exciting, but are intriguing on an emotional level. The story has been written by Hina Huma Nafees, who wrote “Malaal e Yaar,” so good things are possible!

Last, but not least is Mahira Khan’s Razia on Express Entertainment.  The story has been written and directed by Mohsin Ali and co-stars Mohib Mirza and Momal Sheikh, amongst others.  While we don’t know too much about the story, we can see Mahira is playing a Punjabi girl fighting for her rights. Mahira Khan back on television is reason enough to be excited.
