Indian Actor Asif Basra Passes Away: Suicide Suspected

Indian film actor Asif Basra has reportedly passed away. The actor was allegedly found hanging in a private complex in Dharamshala today morning. Media outlet ANI broke the news on the micro-blogging site Twitter, writing, “Forensic team is at the spot and police is investigating the matter: SSP Kangra Vimukt Ranjan. #HimachalPradesh.” According to SP Dharmshala Vimukt Ranjan, no suicide note was found in the apartment, which Basra had supposedly rented out for the past five years. He was 53 years old. “Asif Basra committed suicide today morning. There is no suicide note,” he told The Indian Express.

 

Ranjan added, “The body has gone for post-mortem. It will be done tomorrow. There is no suicide note.” Filmmaker Hansal Mehta was among the first from the Bollywood industry to react to the death. “Can’t be true. This is just very, very sad,” he tweeted.

Kicking off his career in 1998 with Woh, Asif was last seen in the second season of Disney+ Hotstar series Hostages. He also featured as a senior executive in a media house in Amazon Prime’s Paatal Lok, which released earlier this year. Asif has also starred in films including Jab We Met, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, Krrish 3, Ek Villain, Anurag Kashyap’s Black Friday and Rahul Dholakia’s Parzania, among many others. He appeared in Michael O Sajbeland’s One Night with the King, as well as Quicksand and Outsourced. His performance was greatly appreciated by his fans around the globe.
