Firing During Meera’s Stage Play: Four Suspects Taken Into Custody

Pakistani star Meera recently met with a horrific incident in the midst of her stage play in Faisalabad. The actor – known for her notable work in Wujood and Baaji among others – was performing inside when unidentified gunmen reportedly opened fire outside Sabina Theater, located at Chenab Chowk. CCTV footage of the incident was released on national television soon after. In an attempt to control the situation from getting worse, police officials immediately reached the venue and confiscated the weapons of the security guards sitting at the gate during the time of the attack. An FIR was also lodged against the culprits. In a new development, four suspects have now been taken into custody.

The Faisalabad police has put the men behind bars and revealed their identities: Adil Awan, Shoaib, Asad and Sami. According to officials, the suspects have been involved in robberies in the past too, and they opened fire to damage the reputation of the cinema. Further investigations are still underway, reported The Express Tribune.

“These culprits stayed at a guest house in Murree. The factory area police arrested them. Adil Awan, Shoaib, Asad and Sami Ullah are among the culprits that were arrested and police is currently interrogating them,” a police official told the publication. Meera and her family have been greatly traumatized following the episode. “This is a tough situation for all of us as it seems that someone is trying to damage Meera’s reputation. Meera however is a brave person and she wants to fulfill all of her commitments in Multan. Even during the Faisalabad incident, Meera did not leave the stage and kept performing. We request the government to take notice of the matter,” said one of the actor’s family members. Earlier, Meera requested the Punjab government for financial aid worth Rs40 million. The government took notice of the matter but was unable to provide her with the monetary help she needed at the time.
